What's this all about?

Meniscus is a not for profit community group run entirely by volunteers. We are a membership organisation and rely on a membership to ensure that we can get funding from people like the National Lottery.

The committee is made up of members of the organisation and any member can stand to be on the committee at the Annual General Meeting (AGM). As a group we try to be open and inclusive and we really want the members to get involved and help with the running and direction of the society. The membership is mainly made up of local filmmakers and people who have an interest in film and film making. We are a very social society and having fun as well as putting on entertaining events is part of the reason we exist. One of the great things about Meniscus is our open attitude and our willingness to be directed by the membership.

Membership Scheme

To join Meniscus you simply fill out the membership form, pay the £1 annual subscription and that is it. We try to keep things as simple as possible. Members will be emailed occasionally with news letters and special events. If you are not on the Internet or would prefer a paper copy then simply give us some stamps and we will post out stuff to you as it becomes available (giving us stamps helps keep our costs down!) Also all members get invited to our AGM where they will have chance to stand for the committee or take part in any voting about the future of the society.

Meniscus exists to help filmmakers or people who just want to have a go at making their first movie. We have access to equipment and know a lot of people who are willing to help you make your film! We have access to cameras and editing equipment and will try to help you anyway we can, even appearing as extras in your film. We have even got a red carpet to
help with your film premiere!

Meniscus also tries to bring interesting and challenging film to North East Lincolnshire. Sometimes we are able to show films that will not make financial sense for the local cinemas but we feel audiences should still have an opportunity to see the films on the big screen. Meniscus subsidises the cost of these films with the funds we raise.
