Nightwatch

Screened on Wednesday 15th Feb 2006, Night Watch is the first of a trilogy and is billed as a spectacularly shot and composed, sci-fi action and fantasy horror film. Fans of Vampires, ancient prophesy and edge of your seat CGI, will not want to miss this Russian epic, that proves Russian cinema is a force to be reckoned with.

Directed by Timur Bekmambetov, NIGHT WATCH (NOCHNOI DOZOR) is the first instalment of a trilogy based on the best-selling Russian sci-fi novels of Sergei Lukyanenko (which also includes Day Watch and Dusk Watch).

A film that breaks the Hollywood hold over the sci-fi genre, Night Watch promises a dazzling mix of mind-blowing effects, adrenaline-fuelled action and suspense filled terror.

A story that spans thousands of years, see's the age old forces of light and darkness settling their differences in a host of imaginative and sometimes less than subtle ways. Plot twists and a good storyline create a great foundation for the following two films that are already in various stages of production.

Featuring an excellent soundtrack and some of, what must be the best value for money CGI effects, the movie only cost a mere $4million dollars to make. The film took more that £15million on Russian soil, beating box office takings for Lord of the Rings.
